When we talk about the soul, most people assume we are all cut from the same cloth. We imagine that we all share the same origin, the same purpose, and the same pathway of growth. But according to regression therapist and psychologist Dr. Linda Backman, that’s not the case.

Through decades of guiding clients into past-life and between-life memories, Backman has discovered that not all souls come from Earth. Her work, supported by teachings like The Magdalene Effect, reveals that there are actually three different types of souls incarnating on Earth today.

The majority of souls are Earth-based. A small percentage are advanced Earth-based souls who have evolved through countless lifetimes. About 95 percent of souls incarnating today are Earth-based. These souls are deeply tied to the human experience, and their journey is about evolving lifetime after lifetime, gaining wisdom through the lessons of love, loss, challenge, and growth.

Earth-based souls are sometimes described as being in the “midrange” of soul development. They are neither brand new nor fully advanced, instead, they are steadily building their soul maturity.

Within this group, a smaller proportion, around 2.5 percent, are what Dr. Backman calls advanced Earth-based souls. These individuals have lived many more lifetimes and often embody qualities of wisdom, compassion, and leadership. They are the teachers, healers, and guides who help the rest of humanity grow.

You feel generally at home on Earth and comfortable with its rhythms.
Your growth feels step-by-step rather than sudden or otherworldly.
You are drawn to community, family, and building collective wisdom.
You often focus on practical progress and personal development.

Earth-based souls may not feel as “different” or “other” as starseeds or angelic souls, but they carry the essential work of humanity’s steady evolution.

Interplanetary Souls (Starseeds)- Cosmic Visitors

Only about 1.25 percent of souls incarnating on Earth are interplanetary souls, more commonly known as starseeds. These are souls who have spent most of their lifetimes elsewhere, in other star systems or planetary realms, and who now come to Earth with a unique mission.

Starseeds bring with them a broader cosmic awareness. They often carry advanced knowledge, heightened intuition, or unusual sensitivities. But because Earth is dense compared to the realms they come from, they may struggle to adapt. Feelings of not belonging, physical or emotional sensitivity, or even unexplained challenges are common.

Yet, starseeds are here for a reason. Their presence stretches humanity’s awareness, opening us up to the idea that we are part of a much larger cosmic family. They often feel called to spiritual work, healing, creative expression, or guiding humanity into higher consciousness.

Being a starseed can feel both challenging and purposeful. The struggles of adapting to Earth are part of your role, because in learning to ground your cosmic essence, you help humanity remember its place in the universe.

Angelic Souls- Beings of Light

The rarest of all are the angelic souls. While very few incarnate on Earth, those who do carry a vibration of unconditional love, compassion, and healing.

Unlike Earth-based souls who are here to evolve, or starseeds who bring wisdom from other worlds, angelic souls come with a mission of service. They are here to hold light for humanity, to embody love, and to help others rise in times of difficulty.

Angelic souls may not always stand out in obvious ways. You might not recognise them by appearance or career. Instead, their presence is felt in the peace, kindness, and light they radiate. They can be found in everyday roles, teachers, carers, artists, parents, friends, quietly uplifting those around them.

Signs you may be an angelic soul:

You feel a deep inner call to serve and uplift others.
Compassion and love come naturally, even when not returned.
People often turn to you for comfort or healing without knowing why.
You may feel both deeply human and somehow more than human at the same time.

Though they are few, angelic souls create ripples of healing that affect humanity as a whole.
