Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Athena's Not So Secret Society app (the App).

In short: there are no accounts, no adverts and no tracking in the App. Your journal and notes stay on your phone and we cannot see them. Payment is handled by Apple. The App only talks to our website to check a member code or to bring in new monthly content.

1. Who is responsible for your information

​Rebecca Tofts, a sole trader trading as Bextoft Spiritual Guidance, based in the United Kingdom ("we", "us") is the person responsible for any personal information described here. Contact: becky_tofts@live.com.

 

2. What stays on your phone

The following is stored only on your device and is never sent to us: your journal entries, your chamber notes, whether you are a member, what you have read, and your settings. We cannot see, read or recover any of it. It is removed when you delete the App.

 

3. What the App sends over the internet

• A member code check. If you use a member code, the App sends that code to our website, which answers yes or no. It may check again from time to time to make sure the code is still valid. We use it only to decide whether to give you access.

• New monthly content. The App may ask our website for new lessons and updates. Like any web request, this passes your internet address (IP address) to our website provider, who keeps ordinary technical records for security and reliability.

• Nothing else. The App has no analytics, no advertising, no tracking tools, and does not load fonts or code from other companies.

Our website is run on the Wix platform, which acts for us in hosting it and keeping those technical records.

 

4. Purchases

If you buy a membership, the purchase is handled entirely by Apple. We do not receive your name, payment card, or Apple ID. Apple gives us sales and subscription reports that do not identify you personally. Apple's own privacy policy applies to what Apple collects.

 

5. People we already know

If you hold a membership through our website, we keep your name and access code on a list so that the code can be checked. We keep that for as long as your access continues.

 

6. Why we are allowed to use it

Under UK data protection law we rely on two reasons: it is needed to provide the membership you asked for, and it is in our legitimate interest to check access fairly and keep our website secure.

 

7. Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising. It is only handled by Wix, who host our website for us, and by Apple for purchases. These companies may process information outside the United Kingdom, using the safeguards the law requires.

 

8. How long we keep it

Your journal and notes are on your phone, so you decide. Technical website records are kept for the period our website provider normally keeps them. Names and access codes on our members list are kept while access continues, and removed when you ask or your access ends.

 

9. Children

The App is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

 

10. Your rights

You have the right to ask what information we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to limit or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy. Email becky_tofts@live.com and we will reply within one month. Because your journal never leaves your phone, you can delete it yourself at any time. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

 

11. Changes to this policy

If we change how the App handles information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
